About

It all started when Jack had a groove and House Music was born. Hearing House Music on boom boxes in the neighborhood and on the radio inspired Jackin' Jamie to become a DJ. These same radio stations were way ahead of their time broadcasting music that was so underground that it was only heard in the streets or in clubs. Like a ritual, every weekend was spent recording mixes off the radio and going to the record store to get those records that were hard to describe if there weren't any other vocals or samples besides the term "Jack". It was a very exciting time in Chicago to experience this new sound emerging onto both radio and vinyl.

Starting off mixing with a double cassette boom box and a Technics 1200, Jackin' Jamie began doing his own mixes and re-edits. It was in high school that Jackin' Jamie met his fellow DJ peers that would expose him to the whole DJ scene from dances to DJ battles. After high school, Jackin' Jamie was invited to join a DJ team that spun at various parties and venues on the north side of Chicago.

From those many years of doing mobile gigs and making mix tapes, it was here that Jackin' Jamie developed his craft and style of mixing. In 1995, a close friend and DJ peer from his high school days was starting to spin on a weekly mix show called "Masters In The Mix" which was aired on WCRX 88.1 FM. Jackin' Jamie was asked to submit guest mixes for the show. After that first night, Jackin' Jamie was asked to become a resident DJ for the show.

During his years on WCRX, Jackin' Jamie was also the mix show director and worked with the stations music director organizing the weekly schedule of mixes to be aired for the week. Featuring not just the roster of residents, WCRX also featured guest DJ mixes as well to be aired during the week on the "Noon Lunch Mix" and "The Mix @ 6". Jackin' Jamie also co-hosted the "Masters In The Mix" along with longtime WCRX alumni Rico Suave from 1997 to 2001. It was also during this time that there were major changes going on with the on air studios. Moving from the 600 South Michigan building to the current new state of the art studio at 33 East Congress to accommodate weekly live mixing along with upgrading from using the traditional audio carts and reel to reel tape to digital media.

In 2001, Jackin' Jamie launched his own website UnifiedBeats.com as an outlet for fellow WCRX DJ's and local DJ's alike. After focusing on Unifiedbeats for a number of years, Jackin' Jamie decided to merge with ChicagoHouseRocks.com which was operated by his close friend DJ Busy Boy to start TheMovement.fm. TMFM as it's also known is focused towards the global DJ culture and turntablism.
